Though Monogram Coated Canvas is Louis Vuitton’s most well-known and recognized material, the house has created many signature leathers over the years. Due to the demand for more durable luxury, Louis Vuitton released its first in 1985. Called Epi, it is dyed, printed with a 3D design, and then painted with a tonal color. Inspired by wheat fields that sway in the sun, it is textured with thin lines and grooves, making it tough and scratch resistant. Much more subtle than the house’s other materials, Epi leather is embossed with just one ‘LV’ logo (on one of the lower corners of the piece).

About Louis Vuitton*

Louis Vuitton Malletier, commonly referred to as Louis Vuitton, or shortened to LV, is a fashion house and luxury retail company founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton. The label’s LV monogram appears on most of its products, ranging from luxury trunks and leather goods to ready-to-wear, shoes, watches, jewellery, accessories, sunglasses and books. Louis Vuitton is one of the world’s leading international fashion houses; it sells its products through standalone boutiques, lease departments in high-end department stores, and through the e-commerce section of its website. For six consecutive years (2006–2012), Louis Vuitton was named the world’s most valuable luxury brand.
